Live the Adventure
Push your boundaries as you follow in the footsteps of famous Lao explorers after whom our tours are named. True pioneers like Francis Garnier, Madeleine Colani, Doudart de Lagrée, Auguste Pavie, Louis de Carné and Henri Mouhot, who mapped much of the region.
These brave men and women were the daring 19th century explorers and adventurers of this lost, and little known wilderness, travelling the rivers in small boats, discovering new tribes, fauna and flora. Many died trying.
Today, many of the remote places you’ll visit on a Mekong Kayaks adventure tour are still “off the map”, not found anywhere, even in Google Maps or Lonely Planet guides. Many of our past cruise and kayaking clients have called it a true life-changing experience, as it becomes a journey of self-discovery and re-connection with oneself as you reevaluate your priorities, and focus on what is really most important to you.
Here’s a genuine client comment:
“We go into these isolated villages with an attitude of superiority; “we have so much more than they have”….. and then we find we don’t. We just have more stuff. Experiencing village life allows us to recognise how over-cluttered, over-indulged and overwhelmingly complex our own lives have become, and part of us yearns for what we see the villager’s have – a serene, slow-paced simplicity, respect, spiritual possession and self sufficiency.
The gift a visit to the villages gives us is the understanding that richness is not gaining more but needing less”.

Step into a time machine and go back over 100 years and experience an authentic, self-sustainable village culture, where the river is the only means of contact with the outside world. Immerse yourself in a culture untouched by time, where there’s no roads, cars, bikes, distributed power, phones or internet.
Part adventure, part community, part eco and ethno tourism this Mekong Kayaks’ trip of a lifetime combines all 4 into an authentic experience you’ll never forget.
Just chill out and enjoy the majesty and serenity of the spectacular mountain and rainforest scenery, as you kayak or cruise along the Mekong, the world’s 12th longest river, snaking through jungle clad gorges beneath karst mountain peaks.
The river first threads its way south, then east ad finally south past the Pak Ou Caves and Wat Don Koun Island (Good Luck Island Temple) towards the United Nation’s World Heritage city of Luang Prabang.
